my heart writes songs
for the birds
            without wings

how many tears will it take
    how many wishes will it take
                        to fly away

dark eyes open
drinking the horizion

I sip the moon
for the sun has my eyes

I have crow feathers in my hair
and oceans behind my eyes

And a heart this heavy
only wonders;
         why
         the whispers of yesterday are more powerful
         than the promises of tomorrow

we hide the moon
to chase the sun
and in this last run, we forget
what it is like to be
free

O, so truly

f     r     e     e

Autumn leaves,
my love,
but I will return

And if you and I are lucky,

we will only be
a season away

I trace embers
with bare fingers

tears
are the prelude
to rain

in this dance
of Hope and Despair,

can't you see
that Heaven and Hell
are on the same horizon?
